Welcome!

Hello football fans! The sporting tragic that has brought you day-to-day coverage of such luminous sporting events as the the Tour de France and Beijing Olympics is back again to cover what can only be described as the worlds biggest sporting event - the 19th World Championship of Football.

204 nations started with dreams of raising one of the most famous trophies in sport, and after a brutal qualification process only 32 remain to fight for immortality. No other sporting event pits world super powers such as the United States against failed states like the Democratic People's Republic (aka North) of Korea. There are countries that have existed for millenia such as Japan, and nations recently born from the turmoil of civil war such as Serbia. And amidst all that, for the first time in its history, Australia has qualified for its second tournament in succession! Even the kiwi's from across the Tasman have made it to South Africa with New Zealand qualifying for their second time in their history.

With just over a week to go the countdown to the tournament is on. Who will win? Will the Big 4 (Brazil, Germany, Italy & Argentina) continue their stranglehold on the tournament, or will a new power emerge in the likes of bookies favourites Spain, perennial tragedies England, or African powerhouse Cote d'Ivoire?

Whatever happens - The Falcon will be here to cover all the games, all the goals, all the stats, and all the controversy. If the tournament is anything like it was four years ago, Australians are in for some sleepless nights!
